Welcome to the latest installment of Cable Renew/Cancel for Paramount Network, TV Land, and FXX. We may have forgotten Cops' prediction for Paramount Network, so we are getting to it in this installment.

Lip Sync Battle: Whatever happened to Lip Sync Battle? Ratings were fine back in March, but when it came back in June, it collapsed to ratings levels that scripted show American Woman is pulling. Mind you, I still think the show will get renewed for a hypothetical final season, but I think the chances are becoming less likely. In that context, American Woman does not look as bad. So Lip Sync Battle is simply downgraded to the leans renewal category.

COPS: Nobody noticed that long running series COPS returned back in June, but it has been holding at a 0.13 A18-49 rating for the past few weeks. But because it is an unscripted show and likely cheaper to produce, it starts out in likely renewal territory. It also is currently the fifth highest rated show on Paramount, but that doesn't seem like much of an accomplishment. When every show is pulling tepid ratings except for Bar Rescue, Ink Master, and Yellowstone, it's the fault of the network itself rather than the show.

Ink Master: Angels: Since the middle of the road performers are in the 0.1s range, an upgrade for the Ink Master spinoff is overdue. The only other shows that are higher rated than it currently are Bar Rescue and recently renewed and wrapped up Ink Master, and Paramount (when it was called Spike) usually renews third place unscripted shows. So the spinoff is now likely to be renewed.

Retro Recommendations: Bewitched

Welcome to a long awaited installment of Retro Recommendations! Today we will focus on an ABC sitcom that ran for eight seasons and 254 episodes. This show was the longest running supernatural themed sitcoms of the 1960s-1970s. If you don't know what we are talking about exactly, we'll say the name of the show, as it is in the title - Bewitched.

Bewitched starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stephens, a beautiful witch married to a mortal named Darrin Stephens. Samantha's husband was originally played by Dick York from 1964 to 1969, and then the role was recasted by Dick Sargent for the remainder of the series. Samantha's meddling mother, Endora, was played by Agnes Moorehead.

Episodes would often begin with Darrin in a spell, and its effects throughout the episodes would wreak havoc on mortals, especially with the neighbors, the workplace, and everything in between. By the end of the episode, despite Samantha's family's attempts to separate them, her and Darrin always embrace. To perform a spell, Samantha would often twitch her nose. Special effects are accompanied by music to highlight many spell-tastic actions.

In its first season, Bewitched was the number one sitcom on television, and the number two show after Bonanza. It aired at 9pm after My Three Sons and was followed by Peyton's Place. The block happened to be the highest rated blocks in the ABC schedule that year. The first two seasons aired at 9pm on Thursday, but was switched to 8:30pm afterwards. Fast forward to many creative changes later, Bewitched remained highly rated as one of the top 15 shows.

York's severe back condition worsened, starting with the third season, where multiple shooting delays were occurring. The straw that broke the camel's back occurred during the fifth season when York collapsed during filming of the episode "Daddy Does His Thing". Soon after, York departed the series. Beginning in season six, Dick Sargent took over the role and ratings significantly declined from 11th to 24th place. The Salem Saga, shot on location in Salem, Magnolia, and Gloucester in Massachusetts, helped the show's dwindling ratings, but ratings slipped again after scripts from old episodes were recycled frequently and in the seventh season the show was out of the top 30. Season 8 had many time slot changes from Wednesday at 8pm in the beginning of the season to Saturday nights at 8pm where the show's ratings dwindled to an 11.4 in the household numbers, finishing in 72nd place, sealing its eventual fate at cancelation.

Nevertheless, Bewitched had a great run of episodes. In syndication, it currently airs on Antenna TV.

That does it for today's Retro Recommendation. We'll have more shows to recommend as time goes on.

Retro Recommendations: Growing Pains

Today on Retro Recommendations, we focus in on Growing Pains.

Growing Pains ran for seven seasons, from September 24, 1985 to April 25, 1992 and starred Alan Thicke as Dr. Jason Seaver and Joanna Kerns as Maggie Seaver, with the four Seaver children: Mike (played by Kirk Cameron), Carol (played by Tracey Gold), Ben (played by Jeremy Miller), and Chrissy (played by Kelsey and Kristen Dohring in season 5, and Ashley Johnson in seasons 6 and 7). Then in season 7, Leonardo DiCaprio starred as homeless teen Luke Brower.

Now Kirk Cameron was an atheist in his early teens, but converted to Christianity during the height of his career on the show. After his change of faith, Cameron began insisting that storylines be changed to remove anything that was adult or inappropriate. After the show's cancelation, he did not maintain contact with any of his co-stars until the reunion film in 2000. He admits, "I shifted my focus from 100% on the show, to 100% on [my new life], and left 0% on the show—and even the friendships that were a part of that show. If I could go back, I think I could make decisions that were less inadvertently hurtful to the cast—like talking and explaining to them why I just wanted to have my family at my wedding."

According to the Ratings History, the ratings decline accelerated by a move to Saturday nights in the final season.

And that's all for Growing Pains, and for today's Retro Recommendations. Hit us up in the comments below!

Jess's Take: Transitions

Welcome to a special installment of Jess's Take. There are a lot of things on my mind I wanted to address regarding a transition period that is taking place on the TV Ratings Guide, plus the many blogs I manage.

To clarify things, I am not leaving the TV Ratings Guide. The TV Ratings Guide has been where I post television related articles, Cable Renew/Cancel posts, and CW Renew/Cancel posts. Since early this year, it has been the home of the comedy series Network (which has been renewed for a second season), and limited series Woah Folks, I Had Another Dream. These are the two TVRG Originals I write and produce. This is also the home of our Off Topic threads, where we comment off topic stuff and ideas (basically what is on our minds).

As far as the blogs I manage, there is only one active blog I currently manage, and that is Jess's Journal: Life Unscripted. The blog is for my personal, faith-based posts - something that is not even entertainment related in the slightest. I've had it since December 2014, during my senior year of high school.

As far as my other blogs go, they became inactive when I took on the position as a contributing writer.

As of right now, moving forward, we are looking for new contributors for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates!

Alone Together: The show premiered abysmal, but not just abysmal, it is below now canceled dramas Famous in Love and Beyond. It starts out as likely to be canceled, but don't be surprised if I downgrade it to a certain cancelation in the next installment. The reason why I have it as a likely cancelation rather than certain is because all of the season 2 episodes are available on the Freeform website, but they are locked, which means you have to have an online account with your cable provider in order to stream them.
